Working on External Drive

Hi,

It's been a long time since I worked on a External HDD for editing. I got an G-Drive where I want to put all my work in progress in it. I plugged it to my computer with the Firewire port and the USB at the same time. Would it help to be more "stable" and by "stable" I mean the external HDD won't make my project crash or less likely?

Thanks!

If you got tips on how to work with your work in progress stuff on a external HDD, I would like to know. Thanks!

You shouldn't use FireWire and USB at the same time, your drive can only be mounted through one interface at once. It will use one or the other. Hopefully FireWire because it's a far superior interface to USB 2.0, if that's the model of G-Drive you have.

I have a G-Drive and a G-RAID which I love, I use them over eSATA for best performance.

Thanks! That's too bad that it cannot use both of them. Somehow I tried and I found out it is slighty faster to transfer and operate. Perhaps it's only me.

Well, both FireWire and USB 2.0 are rather slow compared to to more modern transfer methods like USB 3, ESATA, Thunderbolt.

I know, but my iMac doesn't support USB3, ESATA or Thunderbolt. Still, my G-Drive has a USB3/2 port.
