How does one get into this field? It's an expansive one and very little information unless you know where to look, it seems.

What companies offer this service, who are the successful ones, how large & small are they, what kind of income do they offer, etc?

This line of work is usually locked up by major outlets or a few small operations that farm out work to a crew that've been on their roster for years.
If you have your heart set on breaking into this field I'd looking into print and online content providers that promote films.
