Workflow thread

I was wondering about the workflows of other people who use Premiere Elements 8 and how they would adapt to the following requirements.

AVCHD footage from a Canon HF200 converted using Koyote Software.

Your objective is to have run a clip on the preview screen as close to real time as possible with no skips and audio issues.

Well, the angle you have to approach from is what are you converting the AVCHD file into? Wmv, avi etc are just wrappers, not compression scheme. Will the resulting transcoded files be intraframe, interframe? What kind of bitrate? All of these is going to affect how quickly a program can run the file. Element 8 does not support AVCHD so pretty much anything you put on the timeline will required to be pre-render if you want to see it in real time. Aside from a faster computer this would be your only option.

Ok. I'll bite. How would you approach this? What would be your solution?

I would get an NLE that's capable of supporting AVCHD native or I would get something like Cineform Neoscene to use as an intermediate codec (not even sure if Cineform would work with Element).
