workflow question

I just wanted to know what are your color correction workflow for HD footage. Here is mine which is quite frankly very simple. Help me out and tell me what should be adde

1. Edit the footage in Premiere.
2. Import the sequence in After Effects.
3. Little bit compositing (if needed)
4. Color Grading
5. Making it widescreen (at least 1.85 or 2.0)
6. Adjusting the clips if needed necessary
7. Bring back the comps in Premiere Pro

Now I beleive a lot of people convert their footages to 16 bit. I shoot on HDV. Can I also make my footage 16 bit... Some people go in the project settings and change the color management. How to utilize that tool... Please help me out... Shooting a short film and suggestion like these will help a lot. Please write down your color correction workflow. For this film I need a dark gritty look. I am thinking of vivid colors.

I forgot to add that I covert the footage to progressive and I also slow it down a little with the help of timewarp like a setting of 85% to emulate the 24fps result... Should I do this? I make the image progressive through the way taught by Andrew Kramer on his site...
