workflow question HDV to DV

I shot a piece on my Canon A1 at 60i HDV. After editing on FCE4 and export as Quicktime Movie (as opposed to Quicktime Compression) the resulting 54 minute piece logged in at 29gigs. My understanding is that iDVD converts HDV to play on a standard DV. But when I tried to burn I got a prompt that there was a formatting error. I would think that's due to the huge size of the file.

My question is, what is the best workflow for editing HDV for use on a standard DVD? The DVD will be played over a local cable access system.

Do I need to downconvert the HDV footage before editing? I would think that might not be necessary -- I could compress the edited HDV footage in Quicktime Compression. But what would be the best settings?

Thanks, Jump. I will try knocking down the data rate in Quicktime Compression, as I don't have Compressor (just Final Cut Express -- no Final Cut Pro Studio).
