Workflow for 720p to SD through Color?

Hi guys,

I have a doubt as I'm starting to edit this project and since it's a big one i thought i would ask you guys what is the best workflow before finding out in the end that i screwed.

Everything was shot in 720p DVCPROHD, and my final master will be SD 16:9. I'm also hopefully grading it in Color latter. It was shot considering that, so the framing was thought to be "cropped" to SD afterwords, and I would also like to use some "smoothcam" as well.

I thought the best workflow would be to edit it in SD, using the smoothcam in some shots, use geometry room in Color an ocasional framing and grading, send back to FCP. I understand that color translates the geometry room back to FCP motion tab, so downconverting would be rendered by FCP.

Is this a good way to work or should I edit in native 720p, crop in color and downconvert outside, say in Compressor? I think the scaling algorythm is better in Compressor.

Thanks a lot for any help you could give.

Eduardo Serrano.
