work lights

Has anyone used the 250w and 500w halogen work lights from HD as a temporary lighting solution? I'm mainly shooting 24p and 60p cranked to 24pn.

yes i've used them. They are hot and hard to control but it depends on what you are using them for. After I used them on a shot I went out and bought some lowels

I'm using JTL dimmable 1000 watts. I rarely dim down, and when I do, very little, I find the HVX200 takes a good bit of light to get a nice, clean image.

You can convert the work light into good video lights for the dvx100.

What conversion are you speaking of besides removing the grill? And I'm assuming that they would be good with the HVX-200 too, correct?

I fitted my lights with barn doorsfrom this site http://www.jtl-lighting.com/, bought a pack of cooking sheets. They work well because there resistent to heat from the work light. I rap the sheet round the glass insert on the front of the light fixture making sure there are no hanging edges, and then place it back on the light fixture to make the light softer. I also purchased 4 chinese globes from IKEA and fit it with 500watts each. You can hang them from anywhere for a soft light source. I am still working on my personal filming technique, but I have allow more exsperienced friends of mine to use my setup and they love it. I have made about $1500.00 in the past 2 month going out to shoots with them and setting up my lights.

I don't own a hvx200, but I am sure they should work.
