Woohoo! First 1080p onboard LCD monitor

[binba]

I have no plans to be a Sony F55 soon, but I just noticed that one of its accessories is the Sony DVF-L700 - a 7" onboard LCD with a full 1080p panel. Besides a proprietary 26pin viewfinder connector, it also has a 3G-SDI input with loopthrough so it's not limited to the F cameras. For a mere $4,500 (MSRP) it can be yours too.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is a first in the market? Until now the sharpest onboards I knew were 720p or 768p.

Is there any practical benefit to this? Or is this just pure fluff?

Somebody should do a kickstarter project for modifying the ipad 3 and using it as a monitor.

I'd have to believe a 1:1 pixel ratio is of great advantage for previewing.

Maybe i'm missing something, but isn't the only purpose of an onboard things like framing or focus? I don't see why it would need to approximate the finished image.
