Since this prob isnt a big deal to anyone but me, I thought I'd post it here. I am finally working on a real project this weekend! We have a budget, a DP, sound guy, gaffer, its being done on a $150,000 Hi-Def camera and we'll also have a steadicam. It will go through a professional editor. And I have an assistant! heh! ;D We have a cool location to shoot in...and I get to shoot behind the scenes with my dvxA!!

Re: woohoo! A real project!

thartley,

what is your position? Are you the director or you just doing behind the scenes? What camera is it anyway?

Re: woohoo! A real project!

I am actually being called an Assistant Director. haha!!! And I will have a personal assistant to boss around. The director is someone I have worked with pretty extensively before, but not on film projects. I will be sort of script supervisor, watching for scene continuity (matching fluid levels in glasses etc between takes), and anything they throw at me. I am not sure on the exact camera, but was told by the director that it is topnotch! Locked in at a cool oldtime bar for location for free, too!

Re: woohoo! A real project!

Sounds great.
Congratulations and learn all you can while your busy having fun.

Congratulations woman. ;)

Even though I already knew you were doing this, it's still exciting! ;D

Re: woohoo! A real project!

I know...I am trying to remain calm, but I am talking everyday to the director, finalizing the little things, making sure we have what we need for craft services, etc, and then it will suddenly hit me! And I want to do the snoopy happy dance... only I'm afraid I'd throw my back out and not be able to make the shoot this weekend. So I calm back down. ;D

Re: woohoo! A real project!

Sorry about the gender mistake :-/. And double the congratulations now—yay for women in fimmaking! And go ahead and do the snoopy happy dance; you've earned it.

Re: woohoo! A real project!

A.D. is one of the most overwhelming, and vital, jobs on the crew. You keep the crew working, keep the schedule moving, draw up shot lists, corral the actors, make sure they're making their way through makeup and wardrobe and sound on their way to the set, and overall make sure the director has the tools/actors/setups etc. they need to do their job.

It's a big job, it's an intense job, and a good 1st A.D. is worth their weight in gold. Congrats on landing the gig, and hope there are many more in your future! :)

Re: woohoo! A real project!

heh! Yea, I will definitely post some stuff, stills, grabs, or something from this! I have actually worked with this director before on a film project, but I hardly count it as there was no budget or ANYTHING. Just he and I, doing a doc on karaoke. He worked the camera and I kept the shot lists, got releases signed and contact info for everyone we shot, talked to the bar owners or managers, conducted interviews, kept tapes ready and labelled, extra batteries in my pocket ready to go, hauled equipment, and answered the questions "When is this coming out?"

I've worked in theater for a few years and my work as stage manager has garnered me the nickname of Radar (after the character on MASH) because once I can zone in on the needs and nuances of who I am working with, I can usually anticipate what they want and how they want it before they ask. Plus, I am pretty good at corraling the talent. ;D Never worked with a DP before, have not met our wardrobe person nor the hair make-up person, but I feel I will do well. I have a good feeling about it. And I should shut up now....I'm rambling.

;D

adrenaline, you know... ;D

Re: woohoo! A real project!

omigod! I cant sleep... the shoot is tomorrow and I have a zillion things going through my head. We met with the full cast tonight and finalized wardrobe, had the hair/make-up person go over the night before do's and dont's with everyone, walked thru some shots... We'll have access to location at 10:45am... The set is in place. ;D Snoopy Dance Alert! ;D

Re: woohoo! A real project!

Just think about it... she's shooting right now.

I can safely say I loathe you, because I have to go to class. >:(

Re: woohoo! A real project!

so...tired... awesome day. I am COMPLETELY in awe of lighting crews! Sound guy was one of the nicest people I've met. The DP was incredible. I got some footage of stuff, and some stills, but mostly ran my butt off. My feet feel like they are bleeding and I would do this everyday if I could! Msut go to sleep... But I am very very happy! ;D
