Won't render to 16:9

HI

I'm mystified. I can produce 16:9 DV avi files no problem but Vegas will NOT cough up an uncompressed avi at 16:9. No matter which pixel aspect ratio I tell it to render to, the result always seems to come out 1:1.

Any ideas anyone?

Is your project setting correct? In other words, when you started the project, did you select NTSC widescreen? Also, make sure that all your clips have the pan/crop set to "match output aspect". Then, when you render out, choose NTSC widescreen under your AVI options, and it should work fine.

Thanks envision. Actually I'm working in PAL but yes, the settings are all correct, all my clips are 16:9 - still no joy. Output settings are 720X576 framesize, progressive, pixel aspect: 1.457 uncompressed. If I output with those same settings but with DV compression I get widescreen as I always have done, as you'd expect, but NOT with uncompressed. What gives?

Hmm, I see what you mean, same thing's happening on my end. Question, since the bit rate is the same for both the compressed template as it is for the uncompressed one, why do you need to render it out differently from the default template other than to have a file size that's over 10x larger?

I tried several different settings when customizing the uncompressed one, and it still came out looking square pixel, and way out of whack. Sorry, I'm lost on this one ... that, and I work NTSC, not PAL.

Oh well, it's not just me then. I need to get an intermediate file out for encoding to MPEG for DVD via TMPGEnc. I really think it does a better job than Mainconcept, especially as I need to transcode to NTSC. Maybe I'm stuck with it then ...

Stuck w/the squar pixel look, or the default choice for PAL DV Widescreen? Hopefully you mean the latter.

I'm not sure what's involved in transcoding a 25P PAL project to 29.97 NTSC, but good luck. I've never really compared Mainconcept's MPEG2 to anything else, but it's always looked good & worked well for me.

Yeah, the problem may be a blessing in disguise with the amount of time I'll save just using Mainconcept straight from the timeline to go into DVDA. I've got a 90 minute doc to deliver in two weeks time and at the moment every minute counts!

Thanks for your input, Norm.
