Won 1st Place in festival...now what?

We just won top honors in the KidsFirst Film Fest in the independent ages 2-5 category. Now what? I would like to get some traction from the bounce and spin it into DVD sales or interest from a larger studio, or....? We have had the DVD on Amazon for awhile and I just put notices on Facebook & Twitter.

Has anyone else won a festival and used it as a springboard to bigger and better things? If so, what did you do & how did you do it?

Details of our win at our production blog below. Thanks.

Try to find more festivals you can enter it into. The more awards you can garner the better your chances.

A promotional film that I made for a state university alumni fund raiser program won first prize at a festival for academic promotional films and we were able to make a few more films like that, for lucrative fees. However, the bottom has fallen out of the educational promotion film market lately so we are kind of back to square one. I would advise exploiting your festival success as wide as you can, submitting the film to other festivals AND starting now to develop your next project(s). If you get buzz from your current work you need to be able to pull the next big thing out of the hat at the first sign of potential interest in funding you get.

It's a feather in your cap; a good one. Now find your next job, using that award where you can, but knowing that each job requires you to reengage and sell yourself and your idea again. I've been doing this a long time and that part never gets easy, though, through experience, getting each job done does.
