Women in Film

There are many, many women here, but they don't necessarily advertise that fact on a web forum. I've met them at bootcamps, at events that I speak at, at trade shows, and somewhere around 40% of my HVX Book and DVX Book customers are women. They're here, just either lurking or just not advertising their chromosomal status.

For posting, this is more a male dominated site, since I'm a tomboy, I fit in just fine. I did know of someone who posted here and thought it was a bit too much for her. There's just not a lot of female poster, overall. Oh, well.

I'm a screenwriter/producer/director in that order.

And I was behaving and everything

Alex, that's such a sweet offer for women, hope someone takes you up on it.
Make it a killer script.

Capt - ah sucks, and I was hoping for some misbehaving...

Guns and Ammo

When updating my site recently, I realized I have not worked with a woman filmmaker. Writer yes, but never a filmmaker. It's no secret men and women see things differently, and I would like to work in that arena.

Any takers, let me know.

I write, you film, we celebrate.

hey, I aint knocking my other partners. Got some great stories to film. Just would like a little variety.

I'm surprised more women are not using the power of this media to get their perspective out there. Any casual surf through IMDB writers and directors will attest to the fact women are far and few.

Woe is me.

Don't look at me, I'm standing behind Alex.

Alex good luck on your search for Desperately Seeking Female Filmmaker.

Here is television 2003-2004 according to article, "Movies by Women: Boxed in 2004"

Television:

Creators - 18%
Exec Prod - 20%
Producer - 33%
Directors - 14%
Writers - 31%
Editors - 10%
DPs - 0%

Now that's just sad. A study done by San Diego State out of 250 movies released in 1999:

17% women as exec producers, producers, directors, writers, cinematographers and editors

77% of these films had no executive female producer

83% had no female writer

80% had no female editor

****
In 2005's stats women writers in tv 27%, in film 19%

This industry, meaning Hollywood, is a male dominated industry and has been
for quite sometime. What you see here on this site, very few women posting
is nothing more than a mirror of what you see in the industry. This is a boy's
game, just like the business world was a boy's game until women broke the
door down and became executives.

Why do women lurk and not post? Barry stated that there are many women who
buy his book off this site, but where are they? Why won't they come out and
play?
