Northern Dreamer
just got a last minute call to go a fassion show this evening. Small kids ages 2 to 12 and I'm told they have rehearsed word has it they can bolt in any direction anytime. It's a north facing shoot outdoors and has to be handheld cos the client wants me to move around through a crowd of people sitting around the stage. To the west will be a setting sun and to the east...well the other side of the setting sun. I have no one to guide me through the sea of sitting people and no idea where the kids are comming from or going to at any given moment. I explained this to the client and he's a do your best kind of guy. So....I'm kind of thinking of placing miss DVX in full auto mode with OIS on so I can navigate the sitting sea of audience and try to pay attention to composition. Does this sound like a resonable plan to you guys?

Thanks......Mino the terrified!

I agree with the handheld approach using OIS since it will be a catch-as-catch-can affair. However, I would stay manual on the exposure, if at all possible. Expose for skin tones and fabric details and let the rest go to Hell.

Maybe not the best advice, but you gotta get out tha door!

Good luck!!!

Thanks teryy that would make sense...I have very little experience with the run and gun thing I like to set up my shots methodically so this shoot is creeping me a little.

yeh I already thought of that and some slowmo in post as I'll be grabbing all audio for backup on digital recorder...thanks

well it's done and I'm glad. They retired the concorde and replaced it with these kids. quarter mile in 0.5 seconds. My 501 head is still cooling down. The whole thing is gonna look like an old 60's batman transition! And wile I was standing in one spot some old lady tapped me on the shoulder from behind and said "sir, could you get your bottom out of my face" There's gonna be some cam shake there for sure from me laughing so hard! And talk about disorganized..."wer're going on at eight o clock which changed to eight thirty which change to eight fifteen. Then to top it off, yhe sound guy decided my mini disk was more interesting to play with than actually push the record button so I lost two minutes of direct feed from the board. Ah well, I'm alive and doin fine with another two hours worth of experience and a few more beans in my jeans...
