WMV to Mac format

I have a WMV file that I'm trying to edit in FCP. Does anyone know how I can convert it to a format that will work with that program? I tried importing it into compressor and imovie as well as FCP and none of those worked.

Here are two fast and efficient ways to convert .wmv files to Mac compatible formats on OS X:

1) Buy the Flip4Mac software -- they sell several programs -- at http://flip4mac.com. They've got demo versions, too, but the demos (I think) won't allow you to convert the full .wmv files. Cheap bastards.

2) Play the .wmv file while capturing the video and audio with screen/audio capture software. One program, which is easy to use but expensive, is Snapz Pro X 2, which you can read about (and download) here: http://www.ambrosiasw.com/utilities/snapzprox/ I believe their demo/trial version is fully functional for a month.

There are as well a number of other screen capture programs, some freeware, some shareware. Some capture video only, making it necessary to edit in audio later (from audio capture software). For a large listing of programs, you can take a look at http://www.versiontracker.com. Just do a search for "screen capture." And, if you feel comfortable using the command-line, there are also some freeware terminal programs. I use a freeware program called vnc2swf, which works well enough but doesn't capture audio. You can take a look at that here: http://www.unixuser.org/~euske/vnc2swf/

You can also try to get a PC and drop the WMV file into Premiere Pro. As long as there is no DRM on the WMV, you can just convert it to a quicktime right there.

Also if you are able to try asking the person who made it to convert it to another format for you. Buy them a copy of Quicktime while you are at it, because free things make other content owners happy ;)
