Wmv Hd Dvd

Has anyone burned the WMV HD DVD, is this a feasable way to go, or does the equipment cost too much, rendering to 720p gives me the best quality. As soon as it goes to dvd it goes to sd, what does a guy do to maintain hd and get a dvd

WMV HD is not the same exactly as HD-DVD's VC-1. The codecs are similar, but not quite exactly. So except burning the WMV HD files on a DVD *as files* and then loading them on the XBoX360, I don't think there is anything else you can do.

XBox 360 also recognizes portable storage devices like USB hard drives. You can just port the WMV files onto a hard drive (or even a USB key). It's an easy way to view your HD content.

Just copy the wmv9 Hd res files ontot a dvd. Then it can be played back on xbox360's and some hd dvd players that recognize open data video files. As long as there are only Video HD files on them. I think the buffalo link HD player does this. There is another gey area where you can create a hybrid HD Dvd out of a normal DVD. Approx 15 minutes or so of HD video on a normal dvd. You can also author a menu structure etc. I think this comes wih roxio or pinnacles sotware. Its an unconventional manner of ending up with a HD Dvd and its cross compatibility with all hd dvd players cant be guaranteed. The straightforward option is to get a HD DVD drive / blue ray drive. Then youll have to get Pro HD Dvd authoring programs which are very expensive at the moment at least.

Eventually I found what I was looking for, Roxio has Pro HD program which I believe will use a wmv file and render to HD DVD and also the menus will be HD. If I can use the Vegas 720p wmv render or a blue ray render and it works that's the result I am looking for. we'll see,

Why do you want to use a wmv for the orginal. Try to see if you can get an uncompressed avi or something on those lines that the roxio program would accept. Then youll only face one compression loss during burn to dvd. But why do you say BLUE RAY render. You have a blue ray drive ? ??? I thought you didnt have a BR Drive and wanted to burn HD onto a Normal DVD..hmm ? Thats why i suggested Roxio. If the latter is what your doing then its not called a Blue Ray Render. Its HD rendered to normal DVD alright.

Microsoft says the vc-1 codec is the basis of the WMV, This thing all started because when I take a HDV clip and go to DVDA its going to be SD. and I am just not happy with it, Even if I put a HD WMV or Blu Ray render clip into DVDA, although it compresses it again, is better than the ntsc template. not on the computer, but on my HD Tv, sometime it looks like total crap, other times its tolerable. I ran across some HD WMV clips, which are being used more often now, IMAX for one. I have been putting the HD WMV clips on a dvd but not making a dvd, therefore no menu, etc Researching it has come up with just a few HD WMV authoring programs, ranging from $99 to $200,000, Roxio is $499 for the pro. It doesn't seem to be avail for trial download. Ulead has one.

But still his post might work out useful for someone researching on these threads. These things can be timeless for someone looking for the right info even now.
