just thought id let those who may not yet have heard that wm9 is now an accepted standard for digital projection at the prestigious Sundance film festival. pretty cool. that means you can do your own uprezzing, and dont even have to do an hd transfer to get it screen and projected at the best film festival in the world. ...i just want to take a second to thank ben franklin for inventing electricity.

I just went to the microsoft new site for Windows Mediaplayer 9 I have the latest version of the player.

Too bad Quicktime couldn't develop marketshare/advancements quick enough to get into a spot like that.... (coming straight from the mouth of a sworn Mac head of course)

As far as frame resolutions, yes, QT can handle HD res, but on the surround issue, something like an AC3 format isn't handled by Quicktime, since it doesn't handle multichannel audio (yet).

AC3 is licenced by Dolby. Granted, it's part of DVD Studio Pro, but including it in the actual Quicktime player, is asking for copyright infringements from people ripping dvd's, etc.

Anyway, coming to the debate of the wm9 format, I think it is a pretty viable format. Even though I don't like Microsoft nor its so called legendary genius at stealing other peoples' creations and trying to monopolize the world.

Too bad they haven't provided the encoder for Mac OS X. But, if you guys are like me and own both a Mac and a PC connected via a network card, you can use both platforms to create and deliver your creations.

I didn 't know much about wm9 format, but after reading an article on Microsoft's web site, I got to say that for the time being this is going to be the approach I am going to use to deliver HD material (dvx uprezed of course).

The approach is going to be editing on Final Cut Pro, encode it with Windows Media encoder series 9, and then just put it on the DVD and that's it.


I can't wait to buy my DVX-100A. Why does it take so long to reach the uk stores? Damn it!

Atomfilms is showing short films in WM9 HD now. It's pretty cool... they get automatically downloaded to your computer and you can watch them for up to a month, or just delete them.

I have watched a couple of them last week. I very nice one was one entitled Flicka. Really nice film.
