Wiring diagram for BMP-type (Sony wireless) mic connector?

Hi,

I have a Sony UTX-B1 wireless transmitter which came with a Sony condenser lav mic. The lav mic uses a "BMP-type" connector to plug into the TX. From what I can tell, the "BMP-type" connector is simply a 3-conductor 3.5mm jack (like the sort used to connect stereo headphones to an MP3 player).

I'd like to make a cable which allows me to hardwire the Sony lav mic directly to my DVX100a (i.e. to use a cable instead of the wireless system). Does anyone know what the wiring diagram would look like? Would it look like this (except swapping out the 1/4" jack for a 3.5mm jack).

And does anyone know what sort of power requirements the Sony mic would have? Will it work with the 48v phantom power that the DVX100a spits out?

Thanks loads,
Jack

you cant - you need to convert the 48ph to low dc voltage ( bias 3-10v )
if you dont do it ,you can say by by to the mic
you will need adaptor or build dc power box for your lavalier and run it with out phantom

Ah cool, thanks loads for the reply.

Could I use a 9v battery to power the mic? Are there any wiring diagrams on the web, please?!

Hi there,

OK, just to make sure I understand this correctly...

In order to build a little power supply for my Sony electret mic, am I correct in thinking that I need to build a circuit very much like the one on the right of this diagram (taken from ePanorama.net):

(my DVX100a will take the place of the AMP in this diagram)

I have plugged a 3.5mm stereo jack plug into my Sony transmitter and there is indeed 5v across pins 2 and 3.

I assume the output from the microphone will be unballanced so I should connect it to my DVX100a as an unballanced input.

Does anyone know what's the best sort of capacitor to use in series with the signal output? And what value capacitor should I use? I assume a radial electrolytic 10uF should work.
