Wiring a mic for Sennheiser EW G2 transmitter?

As far as I know the G2 transmitter allows me to connect mic and line level signals so it has the following input diagram for 3.5mm miniplug:
tip = microphone
ring = line input (so no connection if you connect a mic.)
sleeve = screen

Does anyone know what happens when I connect a dual mono wired 3.5mm miniplug to the Sennheiser EW G2?

Is the line/mic input selectable from the transmitter so it will work? Assuming that the transmitter can provide some plug-in power?

Thanks,
T

AFAIK that won't work. I'm pretty sure it uses the signal presence to determine which input to switch on. If you send it a mic level signal you should put hot on the tip, cold on the sleeve and shunt ring to sleeve, thus grounding it. If you're sending a line level signal, put signal hot on the ring and shunt the tip to the sleeve to ground it instead. Niether of those are dual mono - that would put signal hot to both the tip and ring connected together. Haven't a clue what shorting the mic and line inputs together like that would do to the transmitter but I doubt it would be good whatever it is.

You answered this yourself in the first part.

A dual-mono wired plug will short out the mic. and line input.

Just wire it as you said.

Tip = mic.
Ring = line
Sleeve = screen
