Hey guys,
I'm getting my shopping list together, which looks like two Sennheiser G2's (EW112P G2, to be precise) and some other gear at the moment.
I've had a bad experience with Radio Mics before (this afwul POS, the UWP C1, which gave me a constant squelching/ringing background when used with a Sony PD-X10) so I'm wondering: Can I turn the lapel mic and the XLR lead it's bundled with into a wired mic with two 3.5mm joiners and a long 3.5mm lead? Can you buy the microphone without the transmitter/reciever to use if I need to mic more people?
Also, I have some craptastic Jaycar lapel mics that end in a mono 3.5mm plug. I wouldn't mind using them as backups, so is there anything stopping me from running them into an XLR end? And if so, what's the wiring?
One more question: If I don't want to take the camera with me, is there some kind of cheap DAT or MD recorder I can use to record audio only on location? It's a question of inputs really. Would I have to rig up a 48V supply to the sennheiser lapels and do a 2X mono jack -> 1X stereo jack wiring hack before they enter a mic level 3.5mm stereo input?
Thanks.
