Wireless / Wired Lav

Shooting a doc inside a prison. Need an omni directional lav. Sorry for the newbie question (I don't know a lot about mics/audio), but is there a lav that is both wireless and it can be used wired as well?

Planning on doing some shooting in a classroom setting with a 2-person crew. Thinking about having the other person point a boom at one of the 12 prisoners who is talking and taping the lav to the floor in the middle of the circle of these men. Thoughts?

Well, you're confusing the technology of getting the signal to the recording device and the device used to capture the signal.

Lavalieres are microphones. They can be plugged into a recording device directly (wired) or into a wireless transmitter that sends the signal to a wireless receiver that plugs into the recording device (camera or other recorder).

As far as taping the lav to the floor - are the men standing? If so, don't bother. You won't hear much except the shuffling of their feet. Boom is going to be your best bet, but I would hang a cardioid, not a hyper. You need the wider pickup pattern.
