Wireless microphone

Sorry if my question has been posted before.
I am doing wedding next month. Clients want to have wireless mic during the vows.
What brand should I buy? I have Canon XL2 Cam? I know they are pretty expensive?
Should I rent or should I buy expensive one. Right now I don't want to invest my money on mic but I have to buy them someday?
Thanks for your help.

i know sennhieser is compatible as far as placing it on the cam, its also small in size not sure how much it cost but its mini to xlr and if that matters to you go for the azden 200 or 500 udr thats what i have the 500udr cuz of the xlr to xlr connection the setup was around the 700 dollar range for the plug in trans, lav and reciever which is bigger than the sennhieser but its lite.

That sennheiser is probabaly going to be the best for your budget. If you shoot a lot of weddings you might wanna considering buying a set; you might be able to find someone on here who might be willing to let a set go for $350-400. Otherways lectrosonic is the absolute best if you have some cash to burn.

I'm thinking of buying a used Azden 500UDR a whole system for $300.00 are you happy with it ?

Thanks. Rob

i love it. its perfect for weddings and such and one of the local tv stations here where i live use them. the only thing is that the 500 dont come with a hotshoe but the 200 does, but there are ways to get a hot shoe i did it and ive some others who posted pics on how they did theirs.

Bilgami,

Thank you very much for your input , As far as mounting goes Bracket 1 makes a nice mount that places the receiver on the right side of the camera.

Thanks. Rob

true bracket one does make that bracket and they also have boxes custome made for the 500 so they can slide rite in. for 300 bucks your getting one darn good setup.

When it really has to work, you rent a lectrosonics.

The sennheiser eW100 g2 system is the best price/performace in the lower budget range at about $500, but the mic it comes with is not very good (the me2). Ditch it and order a countryman emw, b3 or b6 wired for g2 (you could also go with sanken if you want the best). Call trewaudio.com and talk to a sales person as they can set you up the right way and answer all of your questions. I went with a Sanken Cos11 wired for lectro with an xlr power supply and an adaper for 3.5mm locking plug (for g2). That way you can use it wired, you can use it with a rented lectro, or you can use it with your sennehiser wireless. The whole setup was about $550 (without the sennheiser system) but it is the absolute best lav you can get.

Stay away from azden, sampson and audio technica systems. They are not up to snuff with sennheiser and lectro systems. The mics that come with them are not good at all.

So ya, rent.

Depending on where you live, chances are you can find a rental house or at least a place to try before you buy. Lectrosonics and sennheisers are definitely fine systems. I have never used azden, ATs, etc. When it comes to pro audio equipment you get what you pay for. Primarily what you want to be paying for is quality and consistency. The rest are bonus bells and whistles :)

Question is, will the bride and groom be speaking their vows into a handheld microphone so the guests can hear? I'd also suggest you start reading up on plant mics and how to hide mics. I personally have had fun tucking a wireless into a garter belt  but then again, it was a scripted show.
