Wireless Microphone

Hey all,

I have a bit of a problem. I do wedding photography and am now going to start shooting video for weddings as well. My problem is that I need a wireless microphone for an upcoming wedding but I have no knowledge or experience on microphones and the wedding is in less than a month. If any one could suggest a budget wireless microphone that would be good for weddings it would be a lot of help. All I need it to do is pick up the priest, bride, and groom during the ceremony. Unfortunately my budget is tight right now as I am still shopping for other equip too. So I'm looking for suggestions under $500.00. Any help is appreciated.

Thank you,

Johnny

It is generally agreed in these online forums that ~$500 is the MINIMUM for a decent wireless mic/transmitter/receiver kit. The Sennheiser G3 series is frequently mentioned as the least expensive decent wireless system. Anything much less is a cheap, fiddly, unreliable, plastic toy and a waste of money.

Note that a pocket-size voice recorder in the groom's pocket (with a clip on mic) is an alternative that many wedding videographers use instead of wireless.

Thanks richard. I will check those out asap. Also just to clarify. I need wireless clip on mics or lav mics i think they are called. Any other suggestions anyone? Thanks again.

I used a pocket recorder with a LAV, yeah the little clip on mic, for a while. It does work, but this is a set it and forget it technique and could be problematic.

I always recommend monitoring your audio - if you really care about it :)

The Sennheiser G2 isnt bad at all either. I use it for all my interviews and it does great. I'd go for the G3 though, since it's the new model of that.
