Wireless Microphone for movie production.

I've been experimenting with this system for solo news gathering and interviews. It works for that application pretty well. The small size of the receiver really helps since it takes up very little space. It has a sophisticated form of gain control that's more like shifting of the dynamic range so it doesn't pump the sound. I'd say not great for shooting a film because of these compromises. For one, there's a 19ms delay because of the encryption. So you'd have to compensate when pairing it with an analog mic. Monitoring with AVX and other non wireless mics can drive you a little crazy. I frequently solo channels to double check. It also has no manual controls other than a basic level on the receiver. The receiver battery is small so you'd have to buy a few extra if you want to go the entire day. Not sure why Sennheiser didn't make that Phantom chargeable since it uses Phantom power to detect when to turn on and off. I've kept my G3s for backup and use them when I need to send a signal to two receivers. You also can't do that on the AVX. Overall, I'm thinking of making the jump to Lectros or even the new Sound Devices Wireless made by Audio Ltd. Maybe somebody here can make some suggestions on that front. That would probably be a better bet for movies.

I'd just like to add that I've shot hundreds of interviews on this system and have had a small handful of failures. The AVX was totally defeated in three of those instances. There was some kind of interference that could not be overcome by any other way than moving the transmitter since there's no manual control. Channel switching is supposed to be automatic. A press podium full of mics was one instance which is weird since they all looked to be analog wireless mics.
