wireless mic recommendations?

Hi all,

We're looking to upgrade our wireless mic solutions, and was looking for any recommendations/preferences in this regard. Needs to be XLR, battery-powered, preferably not rack-mounted, dual-antenna/double-diversity, and if you could also plug the receiver in to a wall socket that would be fantastic.

I've been looking at some options from Sennheiser and Lectronsonics, but was curious to see what others recommended. Money is no object.

If you've got a decent budget, you should only look at Lectrosonics or Zaxcom. EVERYTHING else suffers in comparison. And absolutely, do not use the stock lavaliere that comes with any of the wireless kits (even the Lectros). Get a Sanken COS-11 or one of the Countryman lavs (or even better, get a COS-11 AND a B6. :-) )

i would go with what i have now...

the 411 lectro receiver and depending on the type of show, any one of the SM transmitters or one of the larger non-sm lectro transitters if size isn't an issue but the sm's are great quality built extremely well.

you can get cables that will let you run the receivers off of an external battery source...

many of us use the np-1 batteries with http://www.trewaudio.com/bds.htm

it is a battery distribution system where you run everything off of one battery.

you can get cables to run just about anything and it isn't very hard to make your own cable...

i have a friend who is a big electronics/avionics tinkerer and he made me cables for my bds that give me a usb power outlet, a 12v car/cigarette adaptor etc.

very handy for when your in the middle of nowhere and you need to charge something like your cell phone!

i'm sure if you really wanted to you could run an AC->DC converter and run if off of the wall but i wouldn't do that without at least having a UPS (uninteruptible power supply, APC being my strong personal choice) and i would also talk to trew audio as i know they makeup some great customized power stuff for peoples carts that i have seen.

Sennheiser EK 3241 receiver - diversity and can be plugged into a camera with a slot-in facility. If no slot-in available there is a special case available.

Can be powered from batteries (with adaptor) or external DC from the camera (or from the mains via a wall-wart power supply adaptor.

Transmitters from the same series.

Details on the system is HERE - this is the professional system and a step up from evolution.

Similar price to Audio Ltd. - the main difference is that Audio seem to optimise their systems for range at the expense of multi-channel working and Sennheiser optimise their systems for multi-channel use.

I hope this helps.
