Wireless Mic Receiver Mount (was Radio Mics)

Hello,
Just joined the club as it were, having just taken delivery of my new DVX and Chrosziel Kit. I'd like to know if any one has come up with a convenient way of mounting a receiver on the camera, other than on the hot shoe,as this has a full Paglight on it.

Thanks,
Jonathan (U.K.)

Re: Radio Mics

There are several types of mounts you can use on the camera. If you get a DVrig Pro you can mount the receiver on there. Go to B&H or EVS and do a search for wireless receiver holders.

Bracket 1 is also a good choice.
See EVS or B&H websites for details.

Jared,

have you posted in the past on how you made this? I'd be interested in seeing the process.

Stick around long enough and you'll be saying plenty of things 'more than once'. ;)

A quick and dirty solution is to get an 8 inch One Wrap velcro fastner strip (http://www.velcro.com/industrial/one.htmlat) at home depot for $2 and strap it on/around the outside of the side handle grip, it helps if you put a piece of adhesive velcro on the receiver. The camera will be slightly off balance but it works.

Jared,

Did u ever make these availble for sale?

I saw a company just made a similar solution that is now in
production.

I'd be interested in urs as it seems more of a solid build. Although theirs ads a handle.

Re: Wireless Mic Receiver Mount (was Radio Mics)

also don't forget there are two other choices that are fairly reasonable which also provide a handle of sorts to help spread out the weight of the camera, and by default make the camera at least somewhat more steady

i currently use the mini-rover but i'm probably changing to the jimmybox.com very soon.

the mini rover is a decent product, the problem i have had with it is that the way it connects to the bottom of the camera is minimal, it has a fairly small footprint where it actually connects and i find it loosens up over the course of the day.

i also bought the brakcet1 and in my opinion, it sucks if your doing much handheld work as it puts the wireless receiver WAAAY forward and at least for me, it put the center of gravity too far forward.

if anyone wants a great deal on a bracket1 let me know, its in the closet and looking for a good home :)

the only downside to the jimmy box is that its a little bit pricey, but it is a LOT like jared's box + it adds a really nice handle and it is available for order.

and no i have nothing to do with the company, just saw their product a week or two ago at the dv expo show in nyc and was very impressed.

My 2 cents - I just got a longer XLR - reciever cable and a belt pack. This makes it nice and easy and doesn't add any more weight/balance issues to the camera when handheld. Since the camer is so small, I prefer this method. The only caution - don't set the camera down and try to walk away without unhooking!

The new Sennheiser Evolution 100 G2 system includes a hotshoe plate that grips the receiver on top of the camera. It's spiffy.

Depends on what mics you're using. I use the Lectrosonics 100's for these smaller cameras.

Here's a tip... the Lectro 100 receiver fits perfectly into an Apple iPod case. They are black with elastic on the sides and a nice belt clip. This way I can wear it on my belt when doing lots of hand-held moves or I can clip it to the handstrap on the side of the 100A camera. In addition, I put wide velcro on the front side of the iPod case, so I and attach it to the velcro I have mounted on each of my tripods, back of my D54 batteries (or anything else). Between the clip and the velcro it pretty much mounts to anything. I get asked about it everywhere I go.

Maybe your mic will fit one as well. It's worth a try...

as long as you can get the antenna vertical. If you "groundplane" the antenna (make it horizontal to the earth) you lose 50% efficiency. I'm amazed how often I see people doing this. Funny, those same people seem to get a lot of "hits"... coincidence I guess :o
