hi,

i'm not really an audio savvy guy, thus i need some advice in buying a reliable wireless mic kit.

i have around $500.00 to spend on it.

do you have any suggestions?...

thank you!

i have been looking at this http://www.evsonline.com/merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=EW100ENGG2

is this overkill? or maybe not even good enough? damn, i'm not even sure what the criteria are...

ps - i do mostly commercial and wedding videography. and i already own an AT-897.

I like Sennheiser ew 112p G2 and have 2 set. Its have a good soundquality

thanks!
is there a cheaper kit that would give me similiar results?
why is this one as expensive as it is?

This is the best buy going for UHF wireless IMHO. Don't cheap out here like I did, you will end up with stuff you have to sell on eBay later. Note that the buttplug adds $100 to the kit, but costs about $250 later on. Also, Rush will cut you a small price break on it of about 4-5%.

I can't speak to the distance from experience, but the specs are impressive. Lots of variable when you start getting far away. I seem to remember it speced at 500 yards??? Or maybe 500 feet or 500 inches. L)

Buttplug is the extra transmitter that goes into any XLR mic (plugs into the butt of the mic). Can turn your AT897 or other XLR device into a wireless handheld, nice for wedding or street interviews. I think it has a setting for line-in also (not sure, too lazy to go look), if you want to capture soundboard. It definitely has a sensitivity setting to adapt to different mics.

This is a pro-level kit.

You obviously haven't seen the Lectrosonics. I have 3 of the G2 kits, and they work great. They're not the best thing you can get, but they're a good value for the money. You won't be sorry.

Someone here did a test on the ranges for different wireless systems. Search this section. From my experience, 100 or 200 ft is definitely possible - depending on walls, etc. Never really had to go farther than that.
