Wireless Lavalier Models

I've been scouring the internet for wireless lavs on a cheap budget. I was wondering if anyone knew how good some were. Any feedback would be fantastic.

SW8SHQ - Check EVS. $289. XLR Connector. This is the one I was thinking about getting.

AZDEN WLX-PRO - $120. I was looking at this and have actually used them before but is there anyway to convert the little microphone jack to XLR?

AZDEN 111LT - $219. This one said something about a mini to XLR adapter thats available, not sure how good that will be.

So here are the basic three I was looking at. I know that you get what you pay for but I'm working on what seems to be the worlds tightest budget. If anyone could lend me some advice it'd be great.

Re: Wireless Lavalier Models

go for g-2 450-500 is the closest thing to" your money do something "
the other items you DID mention is better to donate the money to IRS

Re: Wireless Lavalier Models

Hey man!

I don't know a lot about the different models you listed, as I always used a 50 dollar sony rig (mini connector) that worked decently well. Not suberb though.

Anyway, I lived in Alaska for fourteen years!

I have lots of friends in Fairbanks! Ever heard of Doug Somers? He's a very wealthy friend in Fairbanks.

Re: Wireless Lavalier Models

Look around for the Audio Technica Pro-88. It's VHF as opposed to UHF and works ok for the money. Especially in desolate places like Alaska! J/K

BTW, Avoid the Azden, I have one sitting in a drawer here, it's retired for causing grief.

You may also be able to find an old Samson UM-1 for a good price. They have since introduced the UM-32 with more channels. It is true-diversity UHF.

Re: Wireless Lavalier Models

Get the sennheiser g2 they are great systems.

Re: Wireless Lavalier Models

G2 definitely gets my vote. For $200 more than the VHF models you get UHF, 1000 frequencies, backlit LCD, autoscan, squelch, a shoemount holder, a mini-XLR cable, and AA powering so you can finally use recharg AA's and save Mother Earth. :D Pro88's are actually very clear as long as no one is on the same freq.

Re: Wireless Lavalier Models

I also vote for the Sennheisers. I've seen G2's on ebay for as low as $417 for new.

But, don't discount the possiblity of renting even in AK. There are many rental houses that will ship to you (you pay of course, but you can get great deals on rentals from 'out of market' areas). On my last project, the director rented a Panasonic Vericam HD and 4 Lectrosonics 200 series with Countryman B6's from a place in Boston (we're in NorCal).

You can. Just call any rental company in the country. They should be able to ship to you. I know we ship to anywhere here at Coffey Sound.

I agree with the above statement 110%.

Regarding the Pro88's....I know some people who use those as wireless links to slates.

Ha ha, he said Goldmember...I'm from Holland, visn't that vierd?

Re: Wireless Lavalier Models

Okay, I'm withdrawing my recommendation on the G2's. I had a shoot yesterday and used a G2 and a G1, and the G2 had significantly more dropouts than the G2, and the range was better on the G1. Lectro seems to be the best and safest way to go. (Also the priciest.) ;-)
