I'm looking for a wireless lav for micing a person who'll be doing news reporting (so a hidden clip mic) for around $250.

Suggestions?

As I posted in your cafe threads, you cannot get acceptable wireless audio for under $500. The minimum acceptable wireless audio kit is the Sennheiser G2. Even with that kit you will want to upgrade the lav mic with something like a Countryman B6.

Read through the stickies and accept that you don't need wireless.

ditto.

the sennheiser g2 is your best bet.

i would either use the mic that came with it or my preference is the sanken cos-11 but the countrymen b6 is a fine lav too.

maybe you can just rent one if you don't need it all the time?

if you buy one of the cheapo sony ones you'll only have to buy the sennheiser g2 later on.

i have a friend who bought the sony set because he didn't want to bother me to go do sound for him and they just sit on a shelf. they wouldn't even work in his building. i think it was the flourescent lights or something like that.

the sennheisers worked great in the same building.

which sonys are you talking about matthew? the UWP-C1? cuz the irony is that they arent cheaper, they just SOUND cheaper.

What wireless are you using Matthew?

i have two sets of sennheiser...

the g2 and the version that came before the g2

i have both the standard beltpak transmitter and the plug on transmitter.

i find myself using the plug on transmitter 10x as often as the beltpak with the lav.

with the plug on i can use my sanken cos-11 lav, or i can plug it into a boom mic or more often i plug it into a soundboard when filming any sort of live show.

the only thing with the plug on is the g2 series has two plug on's available and the $200 one doesn't do phantom. you have to spend $450 to get the skp500 with phantom.

when i got my prior to g2 set i got a combo with both the plug on and the belt pak transmitter and the standard receiver and that plug on did phantom.

now you have to stop and check because they have two models of the plug on which is great if your only using mics that either don't need phantom or provide it on their own because the plug on is half price without phantom.

why not?

with the plug on i have tons of flexibility as to what mic i can make wireless.

its not my first choice but if i have to go wireless i can use that mic or the cub-01 or even a 416 or oktava.

i could have gotten the end put on there to match my sennheiser belt pak transmitter but at some point i might upgrade to lectrosonic and then i'd have to pay to have the ends reterminated.
