Wireless hop to DSLR?

Maybe this is naive, but if it is only for a scratch track to help sync, it doesn't need to be so complicated. Hang a powered shoe mic like a Rode video mic pro on the cam and shoot. No tether, no nothing; make it simple.

So I still do a lot of weddings. They usually shoot with 3 cameras. Typically 2 cameras might 20-30 feet away from the Bride/Groom. The camera that is the wide shot will be all the way in the back of the church. It'll definitely not pick anything. I was just thinking that maybe with scratch track it'll help plural eyes sync it much better.

Victor, the bulk of my work is similar. Just leave the cams internal audio on auto and you'll be very unlucky if Pluraleyes cannot sync it. I have three sets of Sennheiser G3's but using one as you are considering would only add to my setup and breakdown times without really adding any advantages.

Even if you do occasionally have to manually syn the rear cam, that shouldn't be too difficult as the shots are as you say wide and so any slight out-of-sync is unlikely to be noticeable except to pixel-peepers.

The only cam I occasionally have trouble with is the GoPro - because they are enclosed in the waterproof case by default. I use a skeleton case plus a plugged in Olympus ME-52W to improve its onboard audio so that Pluraleyes has more to get its teeth into.

If you are shooting a series of very short clips on the rear camera it will be that much harder to sync regardless of whether you are doing that manually or in Pluraleyes, and regardless of the quality of the onboard audio track. My advice would be to either let the cam run the whole time - even when you are moving it around - or at least shoot short clips for longer than you actually need to in order to have a longer waveform to work with.

With cameras at different distances an onboard mic will be out of sync with the other cameras. Sound travels a LOT slower than light. With the scenario mentioned the rear of house sound could be a couple of frames behind the close cameras. The wireless hop solves that issue. If the cameras are all about the same distance they will all be about the same relative sync so onboard mics should work.
