Wired Lav

Either COS-11s (phantom only), or COS-11sBP if you ever need to use it with a camera or recorder which does not have phantom power. I have the COS-11sBP version, it works without the battery like the plain COS-11s.

How long is the cable on that? It doesn't say on B&H's page. I just got a couple of the Sennheiser Evolution G2's but the wired lav would be a lot easier for solo podcasts and instructional video which I do a lot of.

I was not planning on using it wirelessly. Any idea what the quality of using one of these wireless is? Is it better to just buy a dedicated wireless lav instead of getting one that could be both wired and wireless?

Thanks.

just get one wired with an xlr plug if you arent planning on it using it wirelessly.

I am going to use it with the HVX (has Phantom power as far a I understand it). Are there any drawbacks to getting the one that has phantom power so I can use it with a camera without Phantom Power (if necessary), though use it on a regular basis with the HVX?

Thanks.

You mean getting one with built in battery possibility?

downsides:

- The output end plug is slightly bigger and heavier to hold one AA battery
- costs a few bucks more.

No quality difference.

s0unds usially worse as the actual voltage change the maximum spl and mic self noise characteristics (electret mics) ,
always use phantom if it available

I have been working with Sanken and they just introduced a new version of the COS-11 called the COS-11x. Here are the details...

Sanken Microphones, Manufacturer of the industrywide standard in ultraminiature lavalier microphones, now offers the COS-11x. The COS-11x still has not changed Sonically. It still has the rich, transparent sound that has made it an industry leader, but it does have some very meaningful changes that will add to its already enormous production value. The new COS-11x features a new front mesh screen which is water resistant, better protecting the microphone from splash, perspiration and cosmetics. This is accomplished without affecting the excellent frequency response. This feature should also increase the effectiveness of this microphone for outdoor use in adverse conditions.

To increase the versatility of the mic, Sanken is now offering 4 colors. The COS-llx will be available in black, gray, beige and white. Strain relief at the capsule has been improved to assure a long durable life. This should improve the use of the mic in situations where mounting can create additional strain on the cable. The Sanken COS-11x will still be available either hardwired to a power supply or pigtailed for you choice of connector. All in all Sanken has taken feedback from end users to create an even more flexible microphone while maintaining all of the characteristics that make this microphone the most popular lavalier for location recording. The TA5F connector is good for all Lectrosonics transmitters and the Audio Technica 100 series.

It's a nice mic although it got bigger.
