wired emw lavalier

I'm looking to purchase my first Lavalier mic. From my readings on dvxuser, I've decided my first lav to be wired. My choice for lav appears to be the EMW from Countryman / shelved. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home;jsessionid=GnG4kF2015!-141510450!1156039736658?ci=1&sb=ps&pn=1&sq=desc&InitialSearch=yes&O=RootPage.jsp&A=search&Q=*&bhs=t&shs=emw+shelved&image.x=4&image.y=8

I curious if I can just plug this into my dvx100a: EMW lav >50' cable >cam? Or do I need something like this? http://www.trewaudio.com/catalog/items/item490.htm

I also have the SD/MP-2 so I might plug to that first before the cam.

To rephrase my question: can I run 48v phantom to the lav direct or will that hurt the lav in some way? Or do I need this power adapter

Thanks SouthBySoWhat. I'm hoping to purchase the EMW by weeks end and glad I dont need to purchase the power adapter as well.

Well I got the EMW last night and had to try it out [another 400am day] My biggest concern was the 48v issue which turned out to be no issue at all. I immediately plugged into the xlr in on the mp-2 and suprised the sh#t out of myself. I could hear myself breathing! I had the lav dangling on an overhead sprinkler system connected to my starquad cable and had it situated 10' away when I turned on the preamp and wow-I thought it was my oktava...except for its omni pattern. This thing would be a great plant mic....yes?

BWest,

I've found that my EMW runs a bit hot, and have to adjust accordingly. I've never used it as a plant mic, so I can't comment on that, but be sure to watch levels with it until you get used to it.

Lavs tend to be a bit insensitive as plants... they are cool, but only if you can get the speakers quite close to them. Distance kills any recording, but its critical with a lav plant.

Thanks for all your help guys, I'm learning as fast as I can. Seems I've gotten all the hot mics I can: pair of Oktava's, the 4073a, and now a wired EMW! Recording to cam or hardrive hasn't been an easy learnig experience with these mics, though I'm expecting some day I'll be extracting a nice clean signal from these babies. I have had greater success recording to my Tascam Da-p1 via the 1/8 tape out from the Sound Devices-mp-2 preamp [not mixpre] I think its time to start the experiment with this ALC on the DVX-a.
