WinXP Service Pack 2 and PPro

Hi all,

I have an urgent question. Tomorrow I'll start putting together a brand new PC config, including of course a clean installation of Windows XP.

A few months ago, when Service Pack 2 came out, I tried to install it as a matter of course, like I do with all WinXP updates, but it threw such a mess in my video editing that I had to throw it away : the computer couldn't even see the DVX nor the deck, which means I couldn't capture any footage !

Since then, I carefully stayed away from Service Pack 2.

Now, however, as I'll have to reinstall Premiere Pro, I'm considering SP 2 again, so my question is : have you installed it, and does it work without problems with Premiere Pro ?

FYI, my new motherboard is an Asus P5WD2 Premium, 4 GB of Corsair RAM, Pentium D 650. I plan to capture via the IEEE 1394 port that's on board the motherboard, since I used a basic capture card before and never had complaints.

Thanks a lot in advance for your feedback.

I don't use or capture from a DVX, but I have two systems running Premiere Pro with Canopus DVstorm2, both with SP2 and they work flawlessly.

I think that you have to install it so that you can install PremPro 1.5.1.

It works fine in my system BTW which was a custom build brand new machine.

On Microsoft's website they list about 25 applications that have a problem with Service Pack 2. I beleive Adobe apps are listed in there. I had to do a complete reinstall after attempting to install Service Pack 2.

I think you will find thats the answer... as your going from scratch should be fine. When SP2 was released I uninstalled premiere and after effects and reinstalled.. all good.

Thanks guys ! You've all been very helpful. I'll try installing SP 2 and will report back if I encounter any problems with Premiere Pro.

Roger, I never export mpeg from Premiere, only AVIs... so I shouldn't have any problems, right ?

Tks for your answer, I'll look into the Adobe document.
