Windows update worries?

My company is giving me a new computer. Obviously for video editing with Premiere Pro 1.5. The IT who is assembling it insists I allow Windows Update to do its thing and install everything. Could Windows Update screw anything up for PrePro? I seem to remember some woes when Service Pack 2 came out...

The comp I use now with PrePro is mine, and while I have SP2, I've turned off Windows Update, and I have NEVER HAD PROBLEMS. (Something I've been dreading is the fact that my boss (and the IT guy) doesn't want me using Norton AV or Zone Alarm OR Firefox if you can believe it. IT guy says McAfee, Windows Firewall and IE, but some of the comps at work use this combination and they are SERIOUSLY messed up.)

Any advice on the subject of Windows Update would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

u'll be fine.....chillax
if youre using it just for editing dont worry, if youre gaming, surfing gay porn, chatting online etc....DON'T. Do it on another pc.

Best to run a dedicated NLE system without even the ability to connect to the internet. Takes a bit of managing (file swapping) but it is doable. You dont need anti virus , firewalls etc if this is the case.

BTW I run Windows XP Pro with SP2 ( installed as new machine) and no problemos. Obviously no Windows Update cos I cant connect to the internet. Mine was not a full Windows install - no games for example.

Tell your boss and IT manager I said so.
