Windows on a Mac, by Apple, Wow

Very cool. Best (and worst) of both worlds. :)

If you surf the web/receive emails from the osx boot only, I think you could still enjoy Windows programs and reduce your exposure to catching Windows viruses/worms etc.

You can enjoy that by using Windows alone. I have an antivirus and the default windows firewall. I haven't had an antivirus for half a year. My Windows installation hasn't crashed since August. It's all about how you use it, and trust me - I have a Lot of software.

my question is, has anyone tried it yet? I have a G5 but I'm still alittle afraid that it might jack it up. They said applecare won't support any damages.

so who's installed it yet?

This is only for intel macs.

I was curious if Mac OSx86 would run on my dual-Xeon? It is the Tyan 2676, I think.

Well I would be up for a fire wire coffee maker.

Well my dad just ordered a new I mac for his office. The only reason he has been holding out was beacuse of a CAD program he uses whitch is pc only.

pcmcia reader for macs?

pcmcia reader for macs?

Barry,

how about this? I don't know much about P2 cards but aren't they just PCMCIA cards? This is a PCMCIA reader that works with Macs.

I didn't know that you could take the cards out of the P2 card. I thought it worked all as one. Hm.

You can run OSX on the SSE2 CPUs. The SSE3 instructions will be emulated. That will just mean that the Rosetta-driven apps will be slower than on a SSE3 CPU. I also don't think XD is supported by Xeons.
Aaand.. Also, that's just part of the deal. You need other gear to be supported. Check www.osx86project.org Wiki for the hardware requirements.

Nope, won't work.

PCMCIA comes in two flavors: regular 16-bit PCMCIA (or "PC Card"), and 32-bit Cardbus. All of those cheap readers work only with the 16-bit version. P2 cards use 32-bit Cardbus, and none of the USB adapters support Cardbus (except Panasonic's).
