Windows layouts...curved lines on external monitor..

1. I noticed in my latest version of FCP my window layouts seem to appear that they are in the shape of 16:9 minus the letterbox. I noticed that when I look at what I am editing on my external monitor certain things look cramed to fit into the 4:3 of the external monitor. This MIGHT be a cable issue. I have a Sony GVD 1000 and the footage looks correct on that small screen but it looks a little cramed on the external monitor.

2. I notice that my lines as in a photograph on the screen has slight curved lines at the top of the image when I have my external monitor on. Its a perfect square image on the Sony GVD1000. Could this be the possibility of a faulty cable? What I mean by a curved line is that if I have a scaled down image (jpeg file) that I import in, Its not nice and straight at least not at the top of the image. It has noticeable curves in the lines. Now it does NOT look like this when I outputted the project. I think its something with the monitor.

1- If you're editing native 16:9, you have to show it on a 16:9 screen, your TV is not a 16:9 screen. If you're editing Letterbox, which is 4:3 with black bars on top and bottom, it'll show up on your TV just fine.

2- Monitor, not the cable.
