Windows and Vegas

This is probably common knowledge to those of you lurking and posting here but for us newbies I thought I'd go ahead and ask again:

What versions of Windows are compatible with which versions of Vegas? And which are faster if there is any difference?
Personally I am interested in finding out if there is anydifferece between XP 32-bit and XP 64-bit with Vegas 6.0. But I guess if I am asking this basic question again I should make it worth while to other noobs that will read this and ask about 7.0, Vista also and all the possible combinations between these two versions of Vegas and three versions of Windows I just mentioned.
Hey, while I'm at it I'll also throw in the request for any speculations you may have concerning Vegas 8.0 and the likelihood, or lack thereof, of it supporting 64-bit.

That make any sense? I'm falling asleep here.
Mhe... I'll just re-read this tomorrow, sorry if it doesn't.

While I cannot directly address your question, I will throw my Vista experience in there.

Fresh install of Vista Enterprise, Vegas runs previews at 3 to 4 fps with plain DV footage. Unacceptable. XP Pro 32bit flies for me.

So will there be a problem with 64-bit platforms or just lack of Vista 64-bit support?

I am waiting on your answers to start a brand new partition on my newly installed RAID0 on a newly installed MoBo. I have XP 32-bit and 64-bit but don't know which way to go.

Indecision is a decision!

What programs do you want to use and need that are currently coded to 64 bit? I see you are in the Vegas forum so are we talking Vegas, DVD Architect? Set up a dual boot and if vegas 8.0 comes in 32 and 64 bit versions then download both and see what works. Or just go with 32 bit now and see what happens!

Doubtful though that a lot of 64 bit programs will be in the market for consumer level products any time soon. I assume you intend to shoot and edit video for a pupose. With the new computer spec's I have seen discussed by you I suspect 32bit will serve you just fine.

Vegas dosen't work well in Vista do you think they are going to spend money porting the new version to Win XP 64 bit? Not likely.

None I guess, but that's what my question is about.

I use Vegas 6.0, DVD Architect 3, Edius 4, Premier but haven't even tried it out yet but intend to in the near future. I also use Photoshop, Raylight and DVrack.

I thought it was established that Vegas works well in Vista 32-bit. So Vista isn't a bad idea, 64-bit seems to be.

BTW my system specs are 80% different but not far from their original marks. Faster, more space, and much more bandwidth. :)

Glad others are working with Vista sans problems, but just FYI, my post above was from a 32bit Vista install.

it was? wow...

see, that's what I am trying to get to the bottom of... some people say no problems, others can't use Vista... why? Memory? Drivers? CPUs? Chipsets?

What kind of system do you have Dennis?

I haven't been able to use vista with vegas 6. I spent all day on a project and when I went to save it, all kinds of error messages. I ended up losing a day's work. My advice is unless you're a software guru, avoid vista like the plague. It's caused me a lot of grief.

what about XP 64-bit?

any experiences there?
Come on, everyone post and if we get enough yays and nays I'll graph the thing
