well i have been using premiere pro cs4 with windows 7....

i have:

core i7 920 clocked @ 3.4 ghz
3gb ddr3 tripple channel @ 1.6 ghz
WD HD 32 mb cache 7200 rpms

2x nvidia geforce 8800GT's running SLI and physX...

preview is almost always 50% speed, and when in premiere ram is 65% used, and cpu fluctuates....

while exporting with adobe encoder the cpu is @ 75% and ram is 90%....cant do anything while its encoding...

however i installed it on windows xp sp3...well well well...

i can play anything at full speed, and when i am encoding the ram is at 60% and cpu is around 50%....

and the sad part about this is, when i am exporting with adobe encoder in windows xp sp3, i can still playback timeline at 50% speed LOL

well just figured i would share this....

Believe me its not windows 7.

I use it on a daily basis and it's not slow to edit HD video on a 4ghz dual core computer.

3 GB is actually a pretty small amount of RAM to be using in W7, because W7 uses a lot more of it than XP. But that's pretty much the only place where you'd see a performance hit between the two. I suppose, Premiere being so RAM-hungry, it could make a difference.

But W7 64-bit with plenty of RAM should smoke XP.

I run Win 7 x86 with 3 gigs and performance is just fine for me (3.2GHz Quad core). Will be upgrading to either 6 or 8 gigs when CS5 comes out and moving to x64 though.

@subtleinspiration was just wondering what gfx card u have? I too have Win7 x86 , phenom x3 720 with 5 gigs and will be upgrading the ram hear shortly to 6 or 8 and wanting to move to x64
