I have no idea how good it is, but I was considering getting one. I normally don't want to use the on-camera mic, but I figure I may as well run it on one channel "just in case"...
Pooh, I recomend not using your oncamera mic for production stuff. I don't think its nessary to get a mink coat for the oncam mic. Save your money and get a good mic and use that instead. But if youre just shooting home movie stuff then what the heck go for it. If its cheap, get it! Just my 4 cents.

funny! I guess that does look like a mink. Looking for a coat for an outdoor night wedding coming soon.
Very nice of you too offer the advice.
I do have a pretty good boom and shockmount. Both sit in my case though these days...
The mic itself is sort of a monster and even though I love it and appreciate what it does..it gets in the way.
for example-I almost burned down a pretty fancy hotel because I knocked over a candle with it. One forgets it is on and it is like having bullhorns. It also gets in the way of photographers ( yah, screw them, you may say, but well, we all have to share space. A bride's room is a tiny place. ) And lastly, it really draws attention. "Oh my, that mic is bigger than your little camera?!!"
I drop recorders all over the place, so pickup is not the issue. It was just my ego for a while...
What kind of recorders do you use Pooh?
I get lucky sometimes and teh Church records to CD for me.
We also use Audio Technica Lav mics. I put one on the groom, and if there is a podium where someone will speak, I tape one there.
I use mostly iRivers. Many sizes. 256 is plenty. You can use any lav mic or ..i have a mic, forget what it is..sony ecm something like that for micing the musicians. I totally overdo it, but makes for less stress and awesome audio. I could do 5.1 surround sound if anyone actually cared about that..(they don't)
Where and how do you place them. I see it has a line in, will that work with a mic, or do you just record directly with that. This is something I am interested in. If you could kind of give me a rundown of your planning and how you do this, I want to present this to the boss. We are sometimes having problems with the audio, and have been trying different things.
