Doesn't have to be built in. They just have it there in case you want to use their mount. I have mixed feelings about having the mount built in. It's a great mount, but list with the fuzzy and mount combo is $250. If you get the fuzzy by itself, it's only $100, and then you can get something like the PSC universal shock mount for $55.
Yes, in fact if you are a boom operator, you will like the K-Tek one because it does not have the pistol grip like the Softie. It makes the weight lighter. Thus if you need the grip, you can always add on a grip by K-Tek ie the HG as well. Some other company i think also makes hand grip. You can screw on the grip to the suspension ie the K-SM or the PSC universal mount when you need it for interview and unscrew it when you want to put it on pole. It becomes more flexible. The front Fuzzy by K-Tek can be purchased by itself. It works well like Softie.
the softie can come with boom holder , the benefit xlr holder ( 10$ ) from Rycote
the k-tek need more expensive holder from 3rd company since they don't make one.
the problem with k-tek suspension is when you are working interior/ext and wont to change the softie to regular foam - you cant -you need 2 suspensions , not to mentionthe time pull the mike of that.
-as much as i like Ktek i don't think it all around one
oh if you use K-Tek suspension, you will find tt the angle it can swivel it is smart point. I think the isolation for this suspension K-SM or the SSM is good. Tried it with a mic like 416 with Rycote sus, AT8415 sus, the k-tek one is better just a bit higher in terms of price. i would say an 8/10 for K-SM for its design, ease of use and don't see that it is small n light, it is very tough though!!
really there is no 2nd option than sending back for cleaning? wat if you lost it???
Then what should you suggest for Mr Caldweld the one who posted for suggestion? He cannot buy what you are using since you mentioned the good one rycote is not doing now.
