WIN CS3 A+V Sync Issues with HDV help!!!

i have loaded approx 15 hrs of HD1080i footage onto an external hd (500g, used about 150G approx), each tape (1hr) has been captured in an individual PPCS3 project. The raw files are mpegs and play fine with windows media player. When i open them on the timeline in CS3 the audio+visuals are out of sync... i used to have elements and never had any trouble like this... i noticed that when the clips are conforming, the clip frame rate is 29.97fps but the sequence rate is 25fps - not sure if this is a problem but once the clip has conformed it changes to 25fps. I have around 500/600g free so i dont think theres a slow computer issue, 4 processers(quad core or something!)- im not a computer whizz by any means but i know im running a fast computer and that something is wrong! I've noticed on some forums that others have had similar problems but i can't find a solution - i just bought CS3 to use for project for work and now im in alot of trouble if nothing is working - PLEASE HELP ME!!!

these are my original file properties...

File Path: L:\THEBIGDOCO\tape 3\t3.mpeg
Type: MPEG Movie
File Size: 11.4 GB
Image Size: 1440 x 1080
Pixel Depth: 1440

Project Audio Format: 48000 Hz - 32 bit floating point - Stereo
Total Duration: 01:02:29:07
Average Data Rate: 3.1 MB / second
Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.333

1. Delete all your files form the Media Cache
2. Upgrade to Premiere Pro 3.2
3. Open your Project/s
4. Wait for the re-indexing and Conforming
5. Edit without A/V sync issues

Where is my Media Cache?
1. Edit > Preferences > Scratch Disks
2. Look for the path to Media Cache
3. Delete it with any file browser

How do i upgrade?
1. In Premiere Pro, go to Help > Updates

When you have re-indexing the files you can go to Window > Events in Premiere Pro and see the report that says that you have dropped frames on your media. The dropped frames causes A/V sync in Pre 3.2 versions.

thanks so much - i have been at the computer for about 16 hours trying to do something and getting no where! - i will let you know how i go, i really appreciate your help!

i tried all of the above - upgraded and then opened up a new project, imported the file, it indexed, conformed and then was still not syncing up. i got these error messages when i looked into events...

Timecode inconsistency in MPEG stream detected around frame 224. Audio
may be out of sync by 209 frames
and
mpegError in MPEG stream detected around frame 223

you reckon this is quite common?

the footage shot with a Sony A1P that im trying to edit. The properties of the mpeg say the footage is at 29.97fps. When i import the footage into a new project with a sequence of 25fps the fps of the clip changes to 25fps after indexing and then conforms when i import the footage into a new project with a sequence of 29.97fps the clip still changes to 25fps after indexing.

What sequence rate should i be using? - i was wondering if this would also have been a factor?

Yes, it is quite common. HDV is i terrible format when it comes to drop outs on tape compared to DV.

29.97 footage should be edited in a 29.97 Sequence.

so you think if i capture each tape with this - them import into CS3, i should have a bit more success?! - ive heard about potentially taking smaller segements of tape at a time, ie - not capturing the full hour, do you think that would make a difference or do you reckon i should be safe to bring the whole tape down at once? - thanks for your reply!

i will edit in a 29.97 sequence then, i noticed that even when i made the sequence 29.97 the tape FPS still changed down to 25 after indexing, is that common?

With PAL footage, yes since HDV PAL footage is always interpreted as 29.97 until the Indexing has finished.

What do you mean with "..the tape FPS still changed down to 25 after indexing"? Where does the FPS change?

hi again,

im having alot more sucess with the HDV split - thank you!, one question, any idea how i can split a clip that has no different scences in it? - some of the sections are maybe 30mins long with one shot and id like to cut that into maybe 8 different sections so i have much smaller files to conform etc... is there other file splitters that can do that?...

and thanks, you have made work alot easier for me just now, you have no idea!!! :-)

when it comes to HDV man im not sure vitural dub mod might work do a google, why do you want to have smaller clips to conform ?
