Wimbledon 2013

I know you guys were all wondering when this thread was going to pop up . . .

That is really too bad for Lisicki, as she's just so danged adorable. Didn't have it today and shanked everything. Really, really hope she has a considerable future in front of her.

Have blocked out most of tomorrow for the Djoko/Murray slugfest, because you just can't think it's going to be a short one.

I woke up this morning hoping to see some history, and I did! They've been talking about the Fred Perry British drought for the whole 32+ years I've been following tennis.

Lisicki earned her way to that match, it's too bad the jitters got to her. But Bartoli is so fun to watch, I'm happy for her. Lisicki is a real bipolar player; when she's on she can beat anyone. I've been a fan for a while, but sometimes she just doesn't show up at all.

Happy for Murray, and glad to see he's got that weighty monkey off his back. So when do we start complaining about the Andy Roddick drought?

Hopefully it won't be 77 years. But how about that Bryan Golden Slam? That's not nothing.

This felt like an '80s Wimbledon, which was a very good thing.

The Bryan Brothers are killing it right now. They looked a little stiff in the first set, but they were on another level after that.

Oh, and should we just move this to the mod forum? :D

It's not nothing at all! Serena almost did the same thing, if she hadn't fallen at the Australian... but the Bryans have a "Bryan Slam" right now; they can turn it into a true Golden Slam by winning the US Open, if I'm not mistaken.

If they win the US Open, they'll have a true, bona-fide calendar Grand Slam, but not a Golden Slam, because the gold medal was in 2012. Not that a Golden Slam is a real, recognized thing.

I thought it was a bizarre, bizarre Wimbledon. Nadal losing in straight sets in the first round? Federer losing in the second? The women's winner never faced anyone ranked in the top ten? And even with the parade of upsets on the men's side, we still ended up with #1 vs #2.

Yeah, but that kind of wild ride happened in the '80s. I mean, in 1985, most of the top seeds were out by the third round. A nobody qualifier named Boris Becker won the thing. I love -- LOVE -- that we don't know what's going to happen next, and that NOBODY is safe.

Yep tennis champions are like buses, there'll be another one along in a few minutes.

But can you imagine, Sir Andrew Murray, or Lord Murray. What fun from the commentators, 'Sir Andy just shanked it! OR 'good Lord!

If it happens, just wait till he comes down here for the Aussie Open we'll have a field day, got a good sense of humour hasn't he?

Cheers.
