Will this tripod fly?

not fly literally, but.... my question is, i'm looking to get a tripod that will support my hvx and also something that can support a kessler crane (8 ft or 12 ft) and i was wondering is this tripod http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/cont...goryNavigation good enough to support this?

i dont know much about tripods but based on some of the search results i'm seeing that everyone is saying a 501 fluid head should be the minimum for a pretty good tripod. this tripod says its a 516...is that much better than the 501 fluid head?

thanks

I have it and like it. It's pretty smooth. It supports more weight than the 501 and once you move up to the 516, It becomes a true fluid head. (which I don't think the 501 is) . I had a chance to play around with the 519 recently and loved it. If you can afford to move up to that, it may be worth it.

I have never tried putting a crane on it, so I ndon't know about the wieght issue. I do thing you need a 100mm bowl though.

The bowl refers to the base of the tripod that attaches to the legs. The bigger the bowl the more sturdy the head. I use both a 75mm bowl and a 100mm bowl and have good luck with both.

I personally do not like the feel of the Bogen/Manfrotto's and feel very comfortable with my Sachtler. So much of this is a matter of personal preference. It is best if you have a pro dealer nearby where you can actually get the feel of the gear.

A popular configuration has been the 516 head with the 3193 sticks and the 3189 mid-level spreader. It's a very nice rig and they have been moving fast!

Good choice! :)

I've succesfully used a Kesslar 8ft crane with my HVX and a 516 head on 351CF legs with no problem, all mounted on an axis-dolly.

good luck

can the 75mm or 100mm bowl be bought separately?

In the item description it says it has the 3193 sticks but in the "this item includes" tab it says the 3190 sticks so you may want to check. We have also been selling these packages with the 3189 mid-level spreader. We can get you a quote.
