Will this do the trick?

I was at B&H yesterday and I think for the money (in this price range) it is a good purchase. I have used the 503 and it's OK. I didn't love it. I rented it for a 2 day shoot and they were better than the 501 kit. But, I don't think I would find sticks that I loved for less than atleast $1500 and I can justify spending that. If I finally decide to spend the money the 503 Kit is probably what I'll buy. Just my thoughts.

Unfortunately, my tripid budget doesn't exceed $500, so I'm hoping this will serve me well for a good while until I can afford some higher end gear.

I believe the 503 is a true fluid head if I'm not mistaken. I also thought I heard the 351 sticks were a good deal. It says 351MVB2 sticks on the page, so I don't even know if those are the right ones.

Haven't used the sticks, but I prefer a larger/heavier set. Just my preference, though. It looks like a solid package, and should do just fine...

I'm pretty sure the 503 is not true... the step up to the 516 is their lowest true fluid, and it reflects in the price.

Yep. The 516 was priced a little over $500 just for the head - I think. But, don't quote me on that. Keep in mind that you can always rent better sticks if you really need them.

I was a Bogen Manfrotto hater (til my tripod was stolen one cold winters morn) and I picked up a 519 head, since then its been a love affair. I hear the 516 is similar.

Horse uses a 503 check out his shots, looks like he uses a 5k sachtler. Techhnique goes a long way.

I just ordered the same sticks with the 501 head. I have used the 525MVB and a 503 head and I loved working with it.
