Will RR MicroX flip work with other adapters EG: Brevis

Anyone have any experience with using the microX RR flip with any other adapter. I was thinking of maybe getting a Brevis too.

I have the M2 and have finally gotten great results with the microX added to it, but it is KILLING me with light loss.

I have seen that the Brevis with the micro collimation and less light loss is pretty attractive. I also like the switchable Ground glass options.

It may work better the other way with the Brevis flip + a redrock as the flip won't have to physically suppotrt the redrock unit (since it will be on rails.)

I don't have any answers but there are 2 issues -

1. will it work optically ? It might work especially if you can get spacers to optimize the distance to the screen - but only testing would show.

2. Will it connect physically. That is dicier as a Brevis usually needs to be supported by a firm connection to camera lens or flip with allen screws. Maybe if the Brevis is mounted on its own rails support though it would have an independant anchor so it would just be a question of aligning it with the redrock MicroX.

I have the same question about an SGPro flip.

Let us know f you figure it out.

See if you can find someone in your area with a Brevis and try it out.

Good idea.
ANYONE in Atlanta area with a brevis want to get together and compare rigs?

It would be cool if you have an HVX200.

Me and my associates would love to meet and play.
Send me a PM.

i have a brevis and a microX.

I'm waiting on a step up ring right now for it to work, but physically, they are compatible on my rig

included are two sets of mounting rings. they have a 55mm thread, so they screw on to the achromat, and on to step up rings, so my setup is

hvx > 82-55 stepdown ring > 55mm achromat >blue mounting ring > micro x > blue mounting ring > 55-72 stepup ring > brevis = awesome

the rings are comprised of two parts, 'ringlets' if you will, that slide into eachother, allowing for precise rotation of the microX, and then you tighten the screws on the outside of the ring to lock it in place, aliging the microX to your hvx. It's great, because a drunk made my hvx, and so it is very optically offcenter, which the microX compensates for.

ya, i wish the SGpro's current flip had alignment adjustment options... my DVX has to zoom waaay in to get past the offset.

Hans,
I still don't get it, but maybe your Brevis is different from mine.
At the last step you say
55-72 stepup ring > brevis

But on my Brevis there is no way to connect directly to a 72mm ring.
The Brevis does have an achromat with a 72mm ring, but I don't think you would want a second achromat in the optical path. There is already one at the start of the MicroX isn't there?

If I take the 72mm achromat off the Brevis I don't have 72mm or any threaded rings male or female to connect to. What i think you would need is some kind of adapter or series of them from the Brevis to the threaded rings on the MicroX.

Is yours different, or am I wrong?

The brevis flip module does for sure have 62mm threads though. He can probably go from the flip to the m2 with that.

I dont know what version brevis you have, but when I took my achromat off, there's a spacer with threads on it. that the ring screws right on to

How long is that spacer and what camera did you get your Brevis for?
Is it basically the same width as the ring that the achromat comes in, or did you remove the achromat from the spacer ring itself.

I don't think I have that spacer, though I do have an old (preflip) achromat that is mounted in a spacer ring.

Does the above make sense?

If the spacer is the aprox 20mm ring I'm thinking of you will have to experiment to see if that distance works well with the MicroX.
On the Brevis Flip for example the basic Brevis unit mounts right against the flip. I don't know if it would work as well if you added an aprox 20mm spacer.

Ill be interested to hear your results.

I believe that the spacer and achromat have the same width tube ( i owned both at one time). ask Ted arabian about the achromat, since he adopted mine.

This is a great thread! Thanks Hans for taking the time to show us all your rig. I have one more favor to ask....Can you give us the rundown on light loss. I'm wondering if Redrocks claim is the same when the micro is mounted to the Brevis. Oh and of course if you have the time some footage would complete this post. Thanks I've been curious about this setup for awhile....seems us brevis owners could save a couple hundred going this route, if it's worth it that is.

Hans,
Thanks for the photo, yes that's the spacer all right, same as the achromat tube.
Is that a working rig - it looks like the Brevis isn't centered. Am I right that you are just showing the 2 units butted up to each other while you wait for your adapter ring -when you will also need to fix the height difference?

The question in my mind would be whether the distance that puts the Brevis from the flip unit has a positive or negative affect on the image. Presumably the MicroX optics are designed for whatever distance from the GG the Redrock is. If you are the wrong distance your ability to get even focus across the frame will be affected.

The Brevis with a Brevis flip for example does not have that spacer. If you added one, I assume it would have a negative affect.

How is your corner to corner focus when the HVX is wide open.
