Will new gear announcements come early?

I know new gear gets announced throughout the year, so I am specifically wondering about the new gear that companies were planning on announcing at NAB 2020. Since there is no NAB this year, how do you think companies will role out its new gear announcements?
Any Day? Closer to NAB scheduled date? Or at some later event?

It will all be online through press/media releases as mostly everything is. Some may announce a date for a live stream from a studio they've set up in their own area (like Blackmagic does). That's what the presentations are at NAB and other shows. They announce products at the podium, play some slideshows, etc. And they could now just do one from the comfort of their own "home". [In the past, Grant Petty has sat at a desk in a studio and talked for 20-30-40 minutes announcing new products and providing general updates.]

In this hyper digital age with intended and unintended leaks, all announcements can be random. Some companies used to try to get ahead of the pack and announce earlier to build some excitement instead of being meshed in with everyone else, but really big companies can do whatever they want...if Sony has something to say - and they better have something to say, lol - people will not miss it.

There are plenty of outlets like Cinema5D, Newsshooter, DPreview and influencer channels to get the announcements out. After all, a tiny percentage of people actually go to NAB. It's just a place to make the announcement. All of the outlets actually get the word out. So it will be no different. A bit of pizazz is lost without the gravitas of a show floor. The other thing that will be missing is the show floor interviews which usually suck anyway. Get the products in the hands of the influencers and they will all make videos to promote the products.

We at Newsshooter are planning on covering new releases that will happen around the same timeframe as NAB. Talking to the big players as well as the smaller and figuring out a way to do it. Several options are on the table. It's still around 4-weeks away and who knows what will happen by then.

I have to admit doing only Skype or live streams are not ideal but it's better than nothing. I feel for the companies as they put a lot of work to hit the NAB deadline. It's also a bummer for them since they won't get the feedback from the trade show that is valuable to them as they do make changes to the product based on that feedback.

A lot of them will end up losing out in other ways also, because they just won't get noticed by anyone who isn't already familiar with them. Or get to meet people. Trade shows is how I met some of my mentors.

That said, I'm glad you guys as well as some of the other bigger e-journals like Red Shark News (of which I'm part) are going to be covering the virtual trade show. There will still be too much going on for any one person to keep up with otherwise :)
