Will my Mac Pro Tower handle FCPX?

I don't think I'll ever go back to editing on my MacPro (6-core) after switching over to the newest iMac 27" (just ordered even the newest one), but there is nothing like using a 12-core to compress 100 HD files over night in a quick cluster via Compressor..that's truly what those computers are made for..

Yeah that sort of thing (as well as large and/or final renders) seems to have pretty much linear speed increases in Compressor with more/faster processors. A beautiful thing. When I went from my old dual 2.7 GHz Powermac to the 2.8 Octocore final renders got about 6+ times as fast. No small matter, especially if you have to do it over...and over...

Still though, the fastest 12-core available, which costs a bloody fortune ($6200; I only paid $2400 for the 2.8 Octo in 2008, plus drives and memory), would probably be 'only' 2-3x faster. That's a lot, but a bit tough, at least for me anyway, to justify it in dollars...

That article only appears to address iMac processors up to quad-cores. Apple will reportedly introduce new Mac Pros next year too, which one would have to theorize will top out at at least dual 6-core as they do now, and I'd think pretty likely dual-8. Staying tuned...

Given there is at least one 16 core windows PC beast out there, I would be disappointed if Apple don't offer something with at least as much poke, if not more. It's going to be expensive though :(

First, I doubt a 16 core computer is selling fast at all. The need for that many cores is pretty much relegated to science research (an area the Mac has always ruled). I don't think 16 CPU cores is going to help video editing out very much.
