THe Playtech Matrix i7-920 V2 PC is a good option then those other 2 PCs?
Cineform is an excellent editing codec.
No, a computer can take a lot. I don't know what the max is, but I know on my motherboard and system I could theoretically have 24GB of RAM. This would require 6 4GB sticks of RAM. The problem is, 4GB sticks are very expensive and not as fast/good for overclocking as the 2GB sticks are. They're just not very practical to have.
That AMD system will take 8GB practically, and probably 16GB if you wanted. Though because you're working standard def, I think you will be just fine with 4GB and can upgrade to 8GB later if you want to.
I just discovered this thread. If I am going to go from a GH1 in 60p720 AVCHD and my final destination is a standard DVD (not BD), what should I do before editing? Can I use Vegas to convert to the final DVD format and then start editing, or will I need Neo Scene to do the conversion? My understanding is Neo Scene is really great if you need to deinterlace, but is of marginal added value if you are just converting to 30p or 24p from an already progressive 60p source. Actually, I don't believe my question changes if I am headed to a Blu-Ray disk. Am I understanding any of this?
Thanks. Are there other tools like Cineform that I should look at?
Dude, the whole issue with Windows is that you have ultimate freedom of choice, when, as Devo once sang, freedom from choice is what you want. (G). Since you are choosing Windows, just take a deep breath and listen to the voices of wisdom here to help you choose a system that will do fine. While a lot has been said on choices, many if not all current Windows computers on the market, with enough RAM (4+GB) will get you started. However, the choices beyond that mean whether you will find a ceiling to your work sooner than later. Pay me now, or pay me later. Apple takes the Pay me Now route, while MS takes the "you choose" route. Neither is "right". Remember, ultimately these are tools, and you need to think of buying either a tool to get started, or one you will grow into. You'll be ok. ChillGod damn it who do I trust i.e PC sellers????? why cant life be simple............wHHHHHHHHHHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY????????????
