Will Faster Video Card give faster NLE performance

Hello, I was just wondering. I have a Geforce 5200Fx video card right now, dual head, and am getting ok performance from my NLE, but sometimes it wont give me realtime, close but no cigar.

If I upgraded to a 5900 or an ATI 9600, will that speed things up, or is that just for 3d stuff and video editing doesnt matter what card you have?

thank you in super advance!

Realtime is a processor/ram issue, not a video card issue.

Actually that depends on what NLE you are using.
Liquid Edition for instance uses both the CPU and GPU (graphics processor) for realtime effects, which basically means - the better processor and graphic card you have, the better performance. I haven't heard of any other NLE using the GPU though, but I guess it's not impossible.

Direct X programs i.e. Vegas may perform better.. I dont know though, Im about to do the same so I can let you know.

Something tells me that YES it will help.

Kind of like playing Video Games. Try playing BATTLEFIELD 1942 on a 64 Card; you gotta turn those settings LOW to even play the game due to CHOP.

Update to a 128 and crank those settings on HIGH.

I have to think that RAM/PROCESSOR and CARD all work in tandem. When previewing VIDEO for example; wont a Killer Graphics Card help the cause?

3D games depends on the processing power of the GPU.. ie how many vertices it can calculate.. how many parallel processes it can handel. NLE demands on the grafix card are extremely low.. unless you're Hollywood FX happy, you won't need a fast Grafix card... even the NLE that takes advantage of a GPU requires pretty rudimentary 3D functionalities and won't take advantage of ANY of the features you're paying for in a $400 gaming card.
