Will DVXuser batteries work??

Bummer. So wait, the HPX170 does NOT use infolithium and accepts the old batteries, but the HMC150 requires the new one?

I wonder why they did not include infolithium batteries for the new, higher ends HPX170??

Correct.

Don't know, but I'd assume that since the 170 is an evolution of the existing product (HVX200) and that it'll probably be sold in large quantities to organizations that already have existing batteries, they felt compatibility was more important.

Whereas with a brand-new "AVCCAM" line, they probably felt less tied to the past and could incorporate new modern features like the infoLithium to-the-minute readout. And, seeing as Sony has had that for years, they probably felt like they needed it to compete.

no fun but must be done.

How is the run time on the larger batteries for the HMC150. I know when i went from the DVX to HVX there was a noticeable difference. So before I go buying them up any rough clue on average usage time on the heavy end using the screen etc.

Thanks

Figure if we need quad core's to edit these files, the camera needs quite a bit of juice to be able to encode files on the fly. If you compare time to mAH, these things don't do so well compared to the DVX despite the lack of tape drive. They list 1h 40m for the standard bat and 3h 50m for the 5800mAH. Figure that is best case scenario with no viewfinder. Most people will need one of the bigger bats, if you plan to go more than 4 hours, more might be a good idea.

I would be interested to test battery life with no media card vs recording to see if there is a difference. Wondering if the encoder is on at all times or only in certain conditions.

It does suck for DVX owners with a pile of batteries, but have to give up something for new functionality. I will appreciate the more accurate readout. Bars aren't bad... until you get down to one or zero in a critical shot and aren't sure when to make the switch (or its too late).
