Will 416 and MKH 60 work well as a stereo pair

I was actually talking about the combination of a super cardioid and a figure of 8 mic since most of the people use a cardioid on a M/S pair due to it's wider polar pattern. I would love to make a comparison recording between a super cardioid/fig.8 and a cardioid/fig.8 pair.

A super-cardioid as the mid in an MS set-up is fine.

It's only when you have a gun mic. with an interference tube as the mid that you can have problems and have to be very careful. This is due to the comb-filter effect with the off-axis lobes of the gun.

I have been reading a bit more for M/S and what you say makes sense but its interesting to know that a well establish company is branding a quality product as a fig.8 mic to accompany shotgun mics. Surely they have tested it and that makes me curious to see if its all a marketing thing or if there is more to it.

Many broadcast and film recordists want to use MS with a gun mic. which is why it's shown this way.

Also, there is less off-axis problem when used outdoors and you don't get reflections from a wall.

But MS is better with a cardioid, super-cardioid, fig.8 or omni as the mid.
